Marilyn's love of the West is evident in this section. Each image began with an onsite visit, a camera and sketchbook, and a story teller's passion for a good yarn. She credits her great-great maternal grandmother, a full blood Cherokee, for her gypsy tendencies. Weaving a tapestry of color and authentic subject matter, she lets imagination reign. The artist invites you to take a drive with her into western America, sometimes back in time.
These beautiful limited edition prints, two of my best western paintings, complement any home or office. With any print purchase comes the background story for that image! |

The artist grew up on spaghetti westerns and cowboy heroes. In 1970, the accomplished painter was invited to spring roundup at the Waggoner Ranch in Vernon, Texas. Even then, traditional ranching practices were changing. That was the last year for the chuck wagon and tent, replaced by the back of a pickup.
For the next five years, Marilyn rode spring or fall roundup with the cowboys on borrowed horses, camera in hand. In 1977, those images became an art exhibit at the Heritage Museum in Lubbock. The legacy of the American cowboy will continue to be cherished in her heart, a favorite painting subject. |

| These three horse paintings are part of a series that chronicled the endangerment of the wild mustangs. The horses in A Winter's Tale and Gone with the Wind are two bands photographed by the artist in eastern Oregon's wild horse country. Mountain Mustangs is a creative flight of fancy. |

"When my son was in the Corps at Texas A&M, I witnessed a typical enactment of Carson's Mounted Cavalry one Mother's Day. The four horse caisson and cannon drew aim at an outhouse several hundred yards over the hill. It was painted orange with UT (University of Texas) lettered boldly on its sides. Just before the cadets fired the cannon which demolished said structure, I took this photograph.
In the oil painting, the background was changed to look like being on maneuvers in the hill country. The original painting took ten years to complete and needs a home." |
